Our Program • Gender-specific instruction for all students and single-sex classes starting in first grade. Educational Program Our educational program is grounded in the belief that the content of what children learn actually matters – it is not enough merely to help children gain skills and techniques. We believe that in order for children to thrive in school, learning must go beyond gaining skills to mastering specific content and developing a framework to organize that content. It is that framework–or context–that helps children know how to use skills and knowledge appropriately. This allows for a depth of knowledge that leads to a true love of learning. At Imagine Southeast PCS we will offer a rich, integrated program, using the Core Knowledge Scope and Sequence, that provides children with the necessary skills, content, and context they need in order to be life-long learners. Specific content will cover a broad, liberal arts spectrum that is integrated throughout the daily schedule in creative, intentional ways. Our program will also have a data-driven focus on student performance and achievement, and a culturally-responsive instructional approach that is sensitive to the specific learning needs of boys and girls. A year-round schedule and extended day program will give students a supportive and enriching environment for learning. We will also stress remediation in order to address any skills, content, or background knowledge children may lack when they enter our school. Our academic program has received official Program Certification by the American Academy of Liberal Education (AALE), certifying the quality of design and academic rigor. The Three C’s Character development. Our approach to character goes beyond pre-packaged programs to more integrated means, which includes teachers and staff who are role models of character, lessons of character infused throughout the curriculum, and extra-curricular activities that foster character development in fun and creativ ways. Community. We want our students to understand that they are members of a particular community in a particular place, and that they are responsible to that community. Our school program will include a Dual-Academy single-sex education approach. This means that boys and girls will be grouped separately within the school starting in 1st grade. We will also provide activities for boys and girls to constructively interact together. All students at Imagine Southeast wear uniforms. We are a public charter school, so tuition is free and there are no admissions requirements. |
